Unlocking Africa’s extractive industries through Science and Technology.

BFIGroup consortium has emerged as the preferred bidder and core investor in the privatization of the Aluminum Smelter Company of Nigeria—ALSCON.

ALSCON is a $3.5 Billion Dollar industrial infrastructure complex, which consists of a 193,000 metric ton aluminum smelter plant, a 540 MW single cycle natural gas/diesel power plant, four housing estates, an administrative office building, an industrial laboratory, modern port, fire and police stations, three water treatment plants, a 200 bed hospital – supported by three clinics, a gas processing plant, and three educational facilities.  The complex was established to serve as a catalyst for the development of the aluminum upstream and downstream sectors and minimize gas flaring in the region. It is located in the State of Akwa Ibom, which is situated in the oil and gas producing Niger Delta region.

Upon stabilization of the complex, BFIGroup will initiate its plans for a 50% expansion of the aluminum smelter, 100% expansion of the power plant, open Africa’s only liquefied natural gas facility north of the equator, develop the commercial, recreational and residential real estate, enlarge the providing of health services through a US affiliated state of the art medical center, and modernize the harbor complex.
